{"id":3754,"date":"2015-07-20T17:25:17","date_gmt":"2015-07-20T17:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=3754"},"modified":"2015-07-14T17:30:11","modified_gmt":"2015-07-14T17:30:11","slug":"to-all-the-boys-ive-loved-before-by-jenny-han","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=3754","title":{"rendered":"To All the Boys I\u2019ve Loved Before by Jenny Han"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_3844\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3844\" style=\"width: 134px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.uhls.org\/iii\/encore\/record\/C__Rb1574660\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3844\" src=\"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/To-All-the-Boys-Ive-Loved-Before-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\u2191 Reserve a copy \u2191 \" width=\"134\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/To-All-the-Boys-Ive-Loved-Before-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/To-All-the-Boys-Ive-Loved-Before.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 134px) 100vw, 134px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3844\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u2191 Reserve a copy \u2191<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Although I enjoyed the <a title=\"Burn for Burn [trilogy] by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian\" href=\"https:\/\/librarina.wordpress.com\/2015\/05\/29\/burn-for-burn-trilogy-by-jenny-han-and-siobhan-vivian\/\"><em>Burn for Burn<\/em><\/a> series, it wasn\u2019t what I would typically expect from Jenny Han.\u00a0\u00a0I first fell in love with her writing when I read <a title=\"Shug by Jenny Han\" href=\"https:\/\/librarina.wordpress.com\/2006\/07\/05\/shug-by-jenny-han\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Shug<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0I went on to adore the <a title=\"The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han\" href=\"https:\/\/librarina.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/01\/the-summer-i-turned-pretty-by-jenny-han\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Summer I Turned Pretty<\/em><\/a> series and frequently recommend it to readers who are looking for an author similar to <a title=\"Sarah Dessen\" href=\"https:\/\/librarina.wordpress.com\/?s=sarah+dessen\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Dessen<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Even though Jenny Han\u2019s stories fall on the lighter side of YA, I can\u2019t help but use words like \u201chonest\u201d and \u201craw\u201d when I describe her characters.\u00a0 I love the fact that Han\u2019s characters face problems that a majority of tweens and teens can relate to \u2014 and the mom\/librarian in me especially appreciates her multidimensional female characters.<\/p>\n<p>Lara Jean has fallen in love many times, but that doesn&#8217;t exactly mean she has had much dating experience.\u00a0 Instead of dating those boys, though, she skipped straight from falling in love to letting them go.\u00a0 And, in order to let them go, she wrote a love letter of sorts. \u00a0Whenever she wrote to one of the boys she loved, Lara Jean always wrote honestly and held nothing back (because she knew that the boys would never really read the letters). \u00a0She&#8217;d planned to simply keep all of the letters in the hat box her mom gave her to hold her special and\/or secret items. \u00a0The fact that she chose to include the name and address of each boy on the front of the envelope, nevertheless, proved to be rather unfortunate.\u00a0 After the hat box mysteriously disappeared from her closet and the letters were all &#8220;accidentally&#8221; mailed out, Lara Jean ended up agreeing to be in a fake relationship to avoid her sister&#8217;s ex-boyfriend, Josh &#8212; to whom she had written one of the most recent letters . But how is a girl supposed to know whether her fake boyfriend is actually flirting or just putting on a good show? \u00a0And what should she do if she starts to think she might have feelings for him? \u00a0The book ended a little too abruptly for my liking, so it&#8217;s a good thing there is a sequel <em>&#8212; P.S.
