{"id":2677,"date":"2014-06-27T18:51:48","date_gmt":"2014-06-27T18:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=2677"},"modified":"2015-03-30T21:37:47","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T21:37:47","slug":"killer-pizza-by-greg-taylor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=2677","title":{"rendered":"Killer Pizza by Greg Taylor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2682 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/killer-pizza.jpg\" alt=\"killer pizza\" width=\"131\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Toby really wants to become a chef and often fantasizes about becoming famous like the people he watches on the <em>Food Network<\/em>.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t exactly have any cooking experience, though, and recognizes that as a major barrier to his dream. \u00a0So, he decides to apply for a summer job at a new restaurant called <em>Killer Pizza<\/em>. \u00a0Working in the KP kitchen is fun and, in addition to making new friends (Annabel and Strobe), Toby gets major satisfaction out of knowing that he has some natural culinary skills. \u00a0It seems that this is definitely the perfect job&#8230; until he is let in on a little secret: <em>Killer Pizza<\/em> is actually just a front for a monster hunting organization!\u00a0 There&#8217;s nothing quite like hearing that <em>MONSTERS ARE REAL <\/em>and that some of them have taken up residence in your town.\u00a0 And, as if learning about the monster infestation wasn&#8217;t scary enough, Toby, Annabel, and Strobe find out that they&#8217;re being recruited as MCOs (Monster Combat Officers) to help actually hunt down and kill the monsters.<\/p>\n<p>This book was not quite as gruesome as <a title=\"The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey\" href=\"http:\/\/librarina.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/07\/the-monstrumologist-by-rick-yancey\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Monstrumologist<\/a>, but I could see fans of that book choosing this for a light summer read. \u00a0It&#8217;s probably somewhere between R. L.
