This novel by Minot\u00a0was a tough read.\u00a0\u00a0You follow two stories: the terror and abuse of a young teenage girl named Esther in Uganda, Africa, who\u00a0was abducted by rebel leader Joseph Kony’s resistance army, and the account of\u00a0American journalist Jane, who travels into Uganda to write a story of these abducted children.\u00a0 It’s a fictional take on actual events that took place in the early 2000s. \u00a0I got caught up in Esther’s story,\u00a0which was more compelling.\u00a0 It told of\u00a0the horrors these young girls endured, her escape, and\u00a0how she had to\u00a0learn how to live with the memories.\u00a0\u00a0Jane’s story was less appealing to me, but\u00a0the account of\u00a0her journey into the country\u00a0had descriptions of\u00a0the beauty and wonders of the African culture and landscape, which I did find\u00a0appealing. I would recommend this read because it is\u00a0powerful, but also told with grace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
