{"id":2266,"date":"2014-02-26T20:50:37","date_gmt":"2014-02-26T20:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=2266"},"modified":"2015-03-30T23:47:33","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T23:47:33","slug":"living-with-jackie-chan-by-jo-knowles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=2266","title":{"rendered":"Living With Jackie Chan by Jo Knowles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2295 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Living-with-Jackie-Chan.jpg\" alt=\"Living with Jackie Chan\" width=\"134\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I usually hate admitting when something makes me feel this stupid, but I just <strong>have<\/strong> to share this crazy story with y\u2019all.\u00a0 I got about halfway through <em>Living With Jackie Chan<\/em> and actually got into a conversation with a friend about how much I love Jo Knowles\u2019 books before I realized this was a companion book to <a title=\"Jumping Off Swings by Jo\u00a0Knowles\" href=\"http:\/\/librarina.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/15\/jumping-off-swings-by-jo-knowles\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Jumping Off Swings<\/em><\/a>!\u00a0 Seriously\u2026\u00a0 I was telling her about how <em>Jumping Off Swings<\/em> affected me so much that I literally could not put the book down before I finished it, woke my husband up with my crying, and then had to go in and cuddle with my sleeping son [at 2am] before I could calm down enough to sleep.\u00a0 (I was pregnant for my daughter at the time, so I guess you can blame some of it on the hormones too!)\u00a0 When I started to describe this story, I stopped talking mid-sentence and said, \u201cOH MY GOD!\u00a0 Josh is the guy from the first book!\u201d\u00a0 Yeah\u2026\u00a0 I\u2019m quick like that!\u00a0 Maybe it wasn\u2019t mentioned in the book review I read when I ordered this book?\u00a0 And, I know I didn\u2019t read the book flap before starting to read the book when I picked it up off the shelf\u2026\u00a0 But, still, I loved <em>Jumping Off Swings<\/em> so much that it\u2019s hard to believe I forgot the character names and also didn\u2019t put two and two together when I first started this story.\u00a0 \/sigh<\/p>\n<p><em>Living With Jackie Chan<\/em> is a continuation of Josh\u2019s story.\u00a0 After getting Ellie pregnant, he feels like a horrible person and finds it difficult to move on with his life.\u00a0 His Uncle Larry agrees to let Josh live with him while he finishes high school.\u00a0 And, while starting over in a new city with a \u201cclean slate\u201d seems like a good idea, Josh finds it impossible to embrace this fresh start.\u00a0 Even if no one at the new school knows what happened last year, HE knows what he did and can\u2019t manage to forgive himself.\u00a0 Fortunately, Uncle Larry convinces Josh to help out with his karate classes at the local YMCA \u2014 which provides Josh with a positive new focus and a chance to make a new friend, Stella.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I usually hate admitting when something makes me feel this stupid, but I just have to share this crazy story with y\u2019all.\u00a0 I got about halfway through Living With Jackie Chan and actually got into a conversation with a friend about how much I love Jo Knowles\u2019 books before I realized this was a companion &hellip;
