{"id":1315,"date":"2012-05-07T17:29:23","date_gmt":"2012-05-07T17:29:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=1315"},"modified":"2015-04-04T20:36:13","modified_gmt":"2015-04-04T20:36:13","slug":"beauty-queens-by-libba-bray","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/?p=1315","title":{"rendered":"Beauty Queens by Libba Bray"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1325\" title=\"Beauty Queens\" src=\"https:\/\/staffpicks.eglibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Beauty-Queens.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"118\" height=\"180\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After trying to read <em>Going Bovine<\/em> and feeling like I was too dumb to understand what the heck was going on, I wasn&#8217;t sure I wanted to read <em>Beauty Queens<\/em>.\u00a0 Luckily, I talked to a coworker who thought this book would be perfect for me, and I decided to give the audiobook a chance.\u00a0 \u00a0Shortly after finishing this book, I discovered a blog post entitled &#8220;<a title=\"Ten Things I Want to Tell Teenage Girls\" href=\"http:\/\/kateelizabethconner.com\/ten-things-i-want-to-tell-teenage-girls\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ten Things I Want to Tell Teenage Girls<\/a>&#8221; and it was as if this entire book was condensed into number 10 . . .\u00a0in a much less sarcastic way.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I think that might be a big part of what I loved about this book &#8212;\u00a0the sarcasm, that is.\u00a0 I am an *extremely* sarcastic person, and I just love\u00a0some tongue-in-cheek satire.<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever asked yourself, &#8220;What would happen if a plane full of beauty queens crash-landed on a deserted island?&#8221; \u00a0Then, this is the book for you!
